Aphix vs SAP Commerce Cloud | eCommerce Comparison

Both Aphix and SAP offer a state of the art eCommerce platform that can cater to most, if not all of your needs. That's why we are comparing the two platforms and giving suggestions about which solution is better based on your business' needs.

If you’re looking for a complete omnichannel platform for B2B, B2C or B2B2C business, the Aphix eCommerce platform measures up quite well against SAP Commerce Cloud, formerly known as SAP Hybris.

To demonstrate this, we’ll be comparing five key areas which you should take into consideration when choosing an integrated eCommerce solution. We’ll also be giving you clear suggestions on which type of eCommerce could be the best fit for your business.

There’ll always be various factors that can make you favour one specific solution over another. It comes down to your own requirements and maybe you need a solution that can handle complex B2B or a platform that is easy to use.

You'll never find the “perfect solution”, but you can narrow it down to as close as you can get based on your budget and business needs.

So to help you decide on your perfect fit eCommerce platform, you need to look at what we consider to be the top 5 factors every business owner needs to consider when choosing an eCommerce solution which are:

  1. Complexity
  2. ERP Integration
  3. Scalability
  4. Pricing
  5. Deployment

See the table below for a quick comparison.

Aphix VS SAP Commerce Cloud Comparison Table

So without further ado, let’s start the comparison with number one on our list, complexity.

  1. Complexity

Aphix WebShop’s implementation is always included in our offering. Our implementations team works closely with your business to make the process fast and efficient. We will provide the integration between our eCommerce platform and your ERP system. After fully training your team, we’ll introduce you to our customer success and customer support team. All you need to do is provide us with your catalogue data (which should be housed in your ERP system) and the page content for your eCommerce store. We’ll take care of the rest for you.

SAP Commerce Cloud’s implementation is usually not included in the cost, but it can be provided by SAP business solutions partners. The process is complicated and can lead to long project times as we will explain further below. Also, the platform offers many, many features which can make it complex for the end-user as a result. The SAP solution requires extensive training, not only for users but also for developers. In our opinion, the implementation cost and the difficulty of use serve as a barrier for most companies except large organisations with big budgets and in-house IT resources.

  2. ERP Integration

Aphix offers out-of-the-box integration with most major ERP systems such as SAP, Sage, and Intact. The Aphix Platform uses the data in your ERP system as the brain of your eCommerce operations. This means you only have to maintain your data in one place… your ERP system. Using Aphix eCommerce products, your customers will be able to view the real-time product, pricing, account information plus stock availability, order history, statements and much more. With all the information fed directly from your ERP.

SAP Commerce Cloud naturally integrates with SAP ERP systems too. This integration offers many advantages and benefits that SAP users can leverage for their business. The only issue is that their integration with their SAP ERP doesn’t come out-of-the-box with the SAP Commerce Cloud. This means there’ll be extra costs for the implementation which will add to the overall cost of the feature-rich yet premium-priced enterprise SAP solution.

  3. Scalability

Aphix eCommerce was created with scalability in mind. As a result, your business can easily scale as it grows. Your company can cherry-pick from our suite of additional eCommerce products and add-ons. You can add multi-sites, multiple languages, multiple currencies or localisation to your existing eCommerce solutions in order to reach new markets with ease.

SAP Commerce Cloud was developed mainly for large enterprises that need a powerful eCommerce platform. These are enterprises that have possibly already scaled and are looking to scale their operations and infrastructure even further. As such, SAP Commerce Cloud makes perfect sense. These companies will most likely have a team of IT resources at their disposal to extract the maximum ROI from a system like SAP Commerce Cloud.

  4. Pricing

Aphix offers a very competitive yet affordable platform. The platform is not only designed for SME’s but is flexible enough to cater to larger companies at a lower cost than SAP Commerce Cloud. All of our products are part of the Aphix Digital Platform and integrate with most SAP systems including SAP Business One, SAP S/4HANA and SAP ECC. Included in the cost of implementing Aphix is integration, hosting, security, system monitoring, system upgrades, customer support, customer training, product roadmap and much more.

SAP, like many eCommerce providers, doesn’t publicly release the pricing for their SAP Commerce Cloud solution. However, from our desktop research, we found that the solution’s starting price is around 50k, plus the annual license fee. This price is just a baseline price and due to specific company need or business requirements, the price can jump to higher numbers very quickly. It’s safe to say that companies should have a budget of at least 100k before initiating a project to implement SAP Commerce Cloud.

  5. Deployment

At Aphix we’re proud of our process and our rapid eCommerce deployment. Implementation can take as little as seven days provided you have all the data and content ready to go. However, standard implementation times are usually between eight to twelve weeks and this is mostly because companies need a bit more time to ensure all of their data is up to date and their content is ready to use on their new eCommerce store. In some cases, where there are extra customisations or design requests which add complexity, the implementation process can be a little bit longer.

Without doubt, SAP Commerce Cloud is a really great solution. However, when it comes to quick deployment, it surely lacks in comparison to others. Rapid deployment for SAP Commerce is estimated to be a minimum of 4 months. Standard deployment times are usually around 8-9 months. It’s often the case that companies have to wait up to 18 months to get their eCommerce up and running on SAP Commerce Cloud. That’s because larger enterprises with complex needs and lots of resources tend to choose SAP Commerce Cloud as an all-encompassing eCommerce solution. In order to meet ‘big business needs’ SAP Commerce takes a lot of time to get right.

Summary

As is probably apparent, when comparing eCommerce platforms, there’s a number of key factors you need to account for in order to find the best eCommerce mix.

Whether your driver is ERP integration, scalability, or solely based on price, you just need to make sure that whatever solution you choose can future-proof your business for the next 10 years.

With that in mind, if you’re a large global enterprise with very complex requirements, who has an in-house IT team and no urgency to implement a solution, then most likely SAP Commerce Cloud is the right decision for you.

However, if you’re a small to medium-sized business or larger enterprise who doesn’t have the time to invest in implementing an eCommerce platform, but you have an SAP system… then Aphix is definitely the right choice for your business. We’ll provide the platform and the integration for you in one go.
